If the fire alarm sounds, exit the building immediately. Do not use the elevators.
Before leaving your room, feel the door to determine its temperature. If the door IS NOT HOT, open it slightely to determine whether or not there is a clear path to the nearest evacuation stairwell (see map located on back of guestroom door). Stay low to the floor. Close the door and take your guestroom key with you. If the door IS HOT and smoke is heavy, seal the door with wet towels, secure an outside telephone line and then dial 911.

American Hotel and Lodging Association Safety Tips
Don't answer the door in a hotel guestroom without verifying who it is. If a person claims to be an employee, call the Front Desk Staff and ask if someone from their staff is supposed to have access to your guestroom and for what purpose.
When returning to the hotel late in the evening, use the Main entrance of the hotel. Be observant and look around before entering parking lots. Close the door securely whenever you are in your guestroom and use all of the locking devices provided.
Don't needlessly display guestroom keys in public or carelessly leave them on restaurant tables, at the swimming pool, or other places where they can be easily stolen. Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry.
Don't invite strangers to your guestroom.
Place all valuables in the hotel safe deposit box.
Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
