Beach Rules

• LIFEGUARDS are on duty from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
• No ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES or OPEN FIRES on the beach.
• No BALL-PLAYING from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
• No GLASS CONTAINERS on the beach.
• No DOGS are allowed on the beach or boardwalk from May 1 through September 30.
• No SLEEPING on the beach between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.
• No MUSIC loud enough to disturb other people using the beach.
• BEACH UMBRELLAS may not be placed between lifeguard stands and ocean.
• BICYCLES not allowed on the boardwalk after 10:00 am from April 1 through September 30.
• SKATEBOARDING is only allowed in city skateboard rinks.
• SURFING is allowed on any beach when lifeguards are off duty. Designated sections of the beach will be designated surfing beaches each day. A schedule for the rotation of surfing beaches will be posted in surf shops and public buildings. (10:30 am to 5:30 pm weekends, 5:00 pm weekdays).
• No SURF FISHING from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, within 50 yards of a swimmer or persons in bathing attire on the beach.

Hotel House Rules

1. No more than FOUR (4) unrelated persons may occupy a unit in the oceanfront buildings of The Castle in the Sand regardless of age. This applies to some apartments as well.
2. Signed rental contracts are required from all unrelated guests.
3. It is the policy of The Castle in the Sand Hotel to contact the Ocean City Police Department if there is under age possession of alcohol or suspected illegal activity.
4. This hotel requires a valid credit card embossed with the name of the registered guest upon check-in for security guarantee and \incidentals. Otherwise, a $300.00 cash security deposit is required.
5. No Pets.
6. No refunds for early departures. This policy is FIRM.
7. Eviction due to illegal activity including but not limited to under age possession of alcohol may result in forfeiture of monies paid.
8. All rules will be strictly enforced and immediate action taken. Failure to comply with these rules may result in forfeiture of monies paid.
9. In accordance with the requirements of the Liquor Control Board:
   • There is to be No “Outside” Food or Beverage brought into Coconuts. Only food and beverages purchased at Coconutsare allowed.
   • Alcoholic beverages on the beach must be purchased from Coconuts or the Coconuts beach waitresses.
10. Alcohol is not allowed in any unit that is registered to a group of unrelated persons if ANY of those persons are under 21 yearsof age.
11. After 11:00pm, all unregistered visiting guests must vacate the property. Noise must be reduced to an appropriate level.

MD Lodging Common Law

1. The parent or guardian of each registered guest under the age of 18 must sign a separate contract taking responsibility for the minor’s expenses for room and board as well as damage or damage deposit.
2. All unrelated guests occupying the same accommodations must present a valid driver’s license or other photo identification at check-in.
3. All guests occupying a room or unit must be registered to that room or unit. Each registered person is responsible for that room including charges or damages.
4. The hotel keeper (The Castle in the Sand) reserves the right to ask any unregistered guest to leave the property for any reason at any time of the day or night.
5. Any person who disturbs the peaceful enjoyment of the vacation of other hotel guests due to noise or inappropriate behavior will be asked to vacate the property in accordance with the law.
6. The hotel has the right to refuse service or remove a guest for the following reasons:
   • Inability or refusal to pay for lodging.
   • Creating a “public nuisance,” intoxication and/or disorderly conduct.
   • Destruction of property or threatening to destroy property.
   • Possession or use of controlled substances.
   • Breaking House Rules.

The Mayor and Council have adopted a Noise Control Ordinance that makes it unlawful to cause or permit noise levels which exceed those established by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene of the State of Maryland (COMAR 10.20.01 AND 2). THAT ANY GUEST CAUSING OR PERMITTING THESE NOISE LEVELS TO BE EXCEEDED SHALL BE SUBJECT TO IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OR EVICTION.

Fire Safety

All rooms are equipped with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Please make yourself aware of the emergency procedures listed here to further enhance your safety and security.

• Locate two exits nearest your room. Be sure they are unlocked and unblocked. Then count the doors between your room and exits so you’ll have a reference point if it’s smoky or dark.
• When you hear an alarm, ACT, don’t simply investigate.
• If the fire is in your room, get out and close the door. Alert your neighbors. Once out, report the fire.
• If the fire is not in your room, leave if you can. First, feel the door. If it is cool, open it slowly and go to the nearest exit. Crawl if there is smoke. Fresher air will be at the floor. Take your keys so you can go back if you can’t use the exits.
• NEVER USE ELEVATORS DURING A FIRE. They could stop at the fire floor.
• If your door is hot, don’t open it. Your room may be the safest place to be. Seal all cracks with wet towels. Shut off fans and air conditioners. Signal out your window. Never break the window.

Traveler Safety Tips

1. Don’t answer the door in a hotel or motel room without verifying who is there. If a person claims to be an employee, callthe front desk and ask if someone from their staff is supposed to have access to your room and for what purpose.
2. When returning to your hotel or motel late in the evening, use the main entrance of the hotel. Be observant and look around before entering parking lots, and before leaving your vehicle.
3. Close the door securely whenever you are in your room and use all of the locking devices provided.
4. Do not needlessly display guest room keys in public or carelessly leave them on restaurant tables, at the swimming pool, or other places where they may be stolen.
5. Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry.
6. Do not invite strangers to your room for any reason.
7. Place all valuables in the hotel’s safe deposit envelope.
8. Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
9. Check to see that all doors and windows are locked.
10. If you are traveling with children, provide adult supervision at all times.
11. If you see any suspicious activity, please report your observations to the management. Dial 0.
